Every now and again, you’ll have to do some spring cleaning. Unfollowing people that don’t follow you is step number one. Twitter Karma gives you a succinct view of who follows you, and vice versa. It also shows you one-sided relationships in your Friends list- people that don’t Follow you back, or those that you have so casually ignored. This is probably one of the quickest ways (that I use) to unfollow large groups of spammers or “one day followers”.
A tool that is a bit more ’surgical’ in it’s use is UnTweeps. This site shows you people on you List that havve not posted in a while. You can search for stale Twitter Followers in 30 day increments: 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days. Any Tweeps that have ignored their feeds for this amount of time can quickly and painlessly be UnFollowed. Harsh, true, but sometimes we need to get rid of the old to bring in the new!

Thanks for the comment! Sorry to respond so late- your comments got lost in the sea of Spam I was hit with the last month or so. Apparently any blog or site having to do with Twitter is a prime target!
